Past experiences with myself and family members dealing with the western medical system left me feeling frustrated and hopeless with unanswered questions as to why we were all experiencing our different aches, pains and states of dis-ease in our body. Another prescription for another pill to put a “band-aid” on the symptoms/pain wasn’t good enough anymore.
I was the main care-giver to my husband who had “some kind” of auto-immune disease that the medical doctors could not “diagnose”. I was exhausted, depressed, and burnt-out mentally living in a constant state of fear of the unknown not knowing if he would live or die. It was a terrible two years. As mysteriously as he became sick, he began to get better. Then, I started to fall apart! Mentally and emotionally I was a “hot mess”. The only suggestion from my medical doctor was to go on anti-depressants and I was not willing to get on that merry-go-round as it’s difficult (and possible!) to get off once started.
Knowing already about the mind-body connection. I started practicing yoga as way to slow down the racing thoughts in my mind, and feel into my body to destress. I had one amazing yoga teacher who also taught wisdom teachings of the yoga philosophies which talked about the mind-body connection. I also saw an excellent Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor who would explain how energy moved around and how blockages of energy created the aches, pain, symptoms and dis-ease within the body and mind. I was intrigued, I continued to take classes, study and learn about the mind-body connection and ancient wisdom practices.
Through all this, I could not get out of what felt like a dark pit of despair and unhappiness. Then I came to the realization that the only person who I could get me out of this funk was me! We humans are a funny bunch. For many of us, we need things to get really bad before we take action to turn things around. I was at that point. Once I decided I was going to make some changes, things started to happen! I spoke to an old friend who opened up a different door to alternative healing and I took the opportunity to explore. This led to other opportunities until I met a BodyTalk Practitioner at a women’s healing circle. She was authentically happy, comfortable in her skin and the joy she emitted was infectious. I wanted to feel the way she did!
I had a few BodyTalk sessions with her and could feel noticeable shifts in my mental health and my physical body. For the first time in years I felt a strong sense of “ease and calm” within me. I needed to know more about BodyTalk! I immediately started pursuing training/education, became certified and have been expanding my knowledge base ever since.
What resonates with me about this modality is that it combines the ancient wisdom teachings of the mind-body connection with parts of western medicine and modern science. BodyTalk helps get the roots of our aches, pains, symptoms and dis-ease by addressing the whole “bodymind” and our “story”. We all have our story, all the experiences we have had from as early as we can remember to this moment. Some parts of our story are painful and it is this energy of pain we carry around inside us that eventually shows up in our physical body as aches, pains, symptoms and dis-ease.
Healing is an inside job! I practice BodyTalk to help people realize and understand that the mind and body are a group of intricately connected systems and when in balance and communication with each other, we each have the ability to access our true healing potential mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
